Vandaag weer een overzicht van de nieuwste medische gadgets die ik de afgelopen week in de blogosphere tegenkwam. Het blijft interessant te zien wat er allemaal gemaakt en geproduceerd wordt.

• De Glucophone. Deze telefoon is een glucosemeter. Je steekt je strip met bloed in het toestel en je glucosegehalte wordt gemeten. Daarna kun je de data uploaden naar een database. Meer informatie over de Glucophone kun je vinden op Diabetesmine.com.
• De Epilert. Dit apparaat detecteert bewegingen die op een insult kunnen wijzen. Een persoon draagt het apparaat om pols en enkel. Als de persoon bewegingen maakt die op epilepsie wijzen dan stuurt het apparaat automatisch een bericht naar familie of arts. Meer informatie kun je vinden op Israel21c.org.
• De PyloriTek(R) Test Kit.

The PyloriTek(R) Test Kit shortens the diagnostic testing procedures due to the simplified preparation, enabling the test to start at the earliest opportunity. In addition, easier result evaluation can be made possible by the large reaction pad on which a positive reaction appears as an intense color change.

• De CardioCheck PA. Met dit apparaat kunnen artsen in een handomdraai bloed controleren. Deze meter geeft onder andere het glucose, cholesterol en triglyceriden.
• De OneTouch UltraMini. Bij Johnson & Johnson kun je een modieuze bloedglucosetester winnen. Dit is alleen voor de Amerikaanse markt.
• Kleine draadloze continue oogdrukmeter
  

  Researchers at Purdue University have engineered a tiny, wireless eye implant that monitors glaucoma by continuously measuring intraocular pressure–a primary risk factor for the disease. Scientists say that such an implant would help ophthalmologists catch and treat problematic spikes in pressure that would otherwise go unnoticed.

• Superkleine batterijen die in de toekomst voor medische toepassingen gebruikt kunnen worden
  

  Along with its ability to work in temperatures up to 150ºC (300ºF) and down to -70ºC (-100ºF), the battery can be printed like paper, rolled, twisted or folded, and even works with the help of human blood or sweat, so it could power implanted medical devices.

• Virtuele colonoscopie
  

  From its inception, CT colonography (CTC) has held great promise. Use of the imaging technology to examine the colon reduces the discomfort of the exam, eliminates the need for anesthesia, and has zero risk of perforating the bowel. The less invasive exam is not as intimidating to patients. As a result, supporters predict that the CT option will encourage previously wary patients to agree to regular colorectal cancer screenings and therefore decrease related mortality.

• Test ter opsporing van leverkanker
  

  “The new test enables accurate detection of liver cancer in over 50 percent of the cases for which previous diagnostic tests have not been able to provide a definitive answer,” said researchers at the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology in a statement.

• Een patientsimulator Jones
  

  Jones is a robot, resembling a mannequin with a healthy tan, and part of the University of Washington’s Institute for Surgical and Interventional Simulation. It’s a two-year-old program that trains future doctors everything from basic surgical skills to how to handle medical crises. The permanent simulation center opened last month.
